They released us this morning, fears and excitement in hand. Ray was not particularly better this morning, but the doctors seemed to think that time was going to heal the latest symptoms, and he might as well rest up at home as opposed to the hospital. Turns out, he did start to feel much better during our drive home. Praise God!
Claire's dad, Mike, came and picked us up from the hospital and got our bags from the hotel and took us to our car, preparing for us: string cheese, grapes, and sodas in an ice-filled cooler -- gas tank full, and keys ready. So sweet. So thoughtful.
Seth, who lives so close to the interstate, provided us our first pit stop, per doctor's orders. He was so kind to run to the store for some extra, much-needed supplies for us on a break from work, rushing back just in time for an important meeting.
[Turns out that the catheter, equipment, procedures (which filled two big bags) is quite a large undertaking in almost every aspect of simple routine life. But thankfully, once the catheter is removed in a couple of weeks, life will ease up tremendously. Our home health nurse comes tomorrow for the first time at 11am.]
My sweet dad had the boys exhausted, had trimmed our trees so you don't have to duck walking up to the front door, [our front yard already manicured by the sweetest Trevor Shannon] had all sorts of baseball stories with the boys to share. All three of them competing to tell the next story . . .
My sweet sister, Kim, showed up about 30 minutes after dad left, bearing a steaming hot, fresh-out-of-the-oven, baked spaghetti for us. She wants to take the boys out this weekend for fun in the sun.
Our neighbor, Karen List, picked up the mail at our house for us because I had the mail stopped one day short of our hospital stay, so it all arrived at an empty house overflowing our mailbox and front door. She picked it all up and emailed me to let me know.
This is just one day of all the thoughtful, kind, generous gestures. Our hearts are overflowing after being recipients of such love and kindness. We are so truly blessed and I cannot imagine what our journey would have been like without such prayers, love and support.
Meanwhile. We're home! We're exhausted!
I was hoping to hear from you before I called it a day, Kelli. I even closed my e-mail but realized that I forgot to check on something, so I thought I'd check one more time...there you were! So glad you're home!!! Hope you all sleep well tonight. We'll connect tomorrow.
