I'm crashing from two days of immense adrenaline. I apologize for the crazy posts. I was submitting them via phone and it was not as easy as you'd think.
Turns out that Ray's surgery was really more like 7 hours. There was at least another half hour of finishing that other doctors were doing while we spoke with the surgeon. Once Ray went to recovery, we thought it would last two hours. However, Ray had lost a lot of blood and had received a blood transfusion, was nauseous once he woke up, and had some low counts. They kept him in recovery for another two hours. Then we finally got to see him a little while before they moved him to his room.
At this point, after arriving at 5:30 am this morning, we were just getting into his hospital room (a semi-private room) at 8:00 pm, which is the curfew for visitors (which includes me, his wife). We were able to stay, taking turns to see him, until about 8:45pm, and have called it a day.
We're allowed to return after 11:00am.
Ray can't drink anything and he has a horribly sore throat, dry mouth and lips. The nurse said she'd order him some throat lozenges, and he's sucking on water filled sponges. He was to do "exercises" every hour: flutter his feet 100x an hour, breath IN through a little contraption 10x an hour, and coughed twice. His body and particularly his hand are swollen from fluids, and his body feels tight.
I told him last night that Acts 3:16 was going to be him:
And his name --by faith in his name-- has made this man strong whom you see and know -- and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man perfect health in the presence of you all. (ESV) I like the NIV version better, but don't have it with me. Look it up if you have an NIV. :)
Anyway, I'm exhausted, but I thank you all for your love and prayers, kind words and well wishes, phone calls and love. Thank you and God bless you all.
What an exhausting, emotional day, Kelli. I hope you're able to get some sleep tonight. Today is over...now to recuperation and starting both of your lives again, cancer free
ReplyDeleteHi Ray and Kelli! I have been reading the updates that Karen Barci has been sending out and it sounds like things are good so far, although I realize serious surgery is never really good. I hope the symptoms subside soon and that you're feeling better as quickly as possible. We're thinking about you!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are in our prayers... Thanks for the update.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update! Praying for you today as you bravely go through this. May the Lord keep His healing hand on Ray.

Hello Mr. Moore. It is good to hear that you are doing well. The rest of the school year is not going to be the same without you here. I want you to know that I am praying for you and I will come visit you in your class room next year. Thank you for everything this year, Mr. Moore!
ReplyDeleteHello Mr. Moore. I'm thrilled to see you in such great conditions and hope you continue down the road of recovery gracefully. It does feel odd in your classroom without having you here and with your room empty, but I'm glad you're doing well. I hope you have a great summer and a good recovery :) <3
