Day 2: Amazing Day!
So this morning, upon arriving at the hospital, Ray looked a little less swollen from the night before; his eyes were more alert and it appeared that the anesthesia was wearing off. It didn't take long, however, for the nurse to arrive, brush his teeth, get a sponge bath, and they wanted him to get up and walk. Now, I imagined he'd have a horrible time standing, would walk two steps and sit down in a lot of pain. NO. I was completely wrong, super-thrilled, and praising God to see my husband stand with a grimace, and walk smoothly, making multiple laps around the hospital floor. In total of what I saw today, he made at least 10 laps. He was going to do more after visiting hours finished. Can you believe that?!?! I have proof. Look at these pictures and how amazing Ray is doing post-seven hour surgery and blood transfusion!!
The doctors were super-excited about how well his output bags were going. Dr. Loeb seemed to think he was doing very well. She is Dr. Schoenberg's Chief Resident, and she didn't think Dr. Schoenberg would swing by, but he did! He checked in on Ray and said he looked fantastic. He told him to keep heavy on his pain meds, and sleep, and walk -- those are the goals for today and tomorrow.
They, surprisingly, had Ray sipping Ensure, chewing gum every hour, and walking four times in the day (which Ray took to doing 3-4 laps a piece!). I'm amazed at his progress and praising God.
I'm trying to get more pictures off my phone -- so more later. :)

Ray, it was such a pleasure meeting you today and you totally blew me away with your strength and determination. You walked like you were jogging. Keep it up and you will fly through this thing. God bless you and Kelli. I was so impressed. BOB (whose been there done that, but not as soon as you did!)
ReplyDeleteHi Kelli
ReplyDeleteHadn't heard from you all day, so I thought I'd check one more time before retiring, and there you were! People at school have been asking me all day if I'd heard anything. I always tell them I'll e-mail whenever I hear, so I'll forward this to them if I can. I also sent out your blog e-mail at the end of the day.
I am so happy Ray is doing so great!!! A picture is worth a thousand words, and Ray really does look great!! This is not what I expected the day after surgery!
Hope tomorrow is even better!!
Karen
Hi Kelli,
ReplyDeleteGREATTT!!! I was amazed, stunned, reading a message tonight from Bob that Ray was doing wonderfully, walking for the first time AND "he was like jogging". I know docs like to get patients up on their feet but... thought it would be dayyysss and with great difficulty. Wow!! Thought it would be just more feet fluttering. Can't hold a good man down, esp Ray. Get some much-needed rest now.
Love you, Ray! God will be glorified.
ReplyDeletePrayers are definetly being answered... So very thankful.

ReplyDeleteHey Mr.Moore! I'm really glad to see these pictures and see how well your doing after the surgery. I'm hoping to see more pictures like these and hear more updates from my teachers. It's not been the same here at school since you left. It's wierd walking into first period and not hearing you call someone an ugly thing. I just want you to know that we're all rooting for you and we're all praying that God will protect you and that He would help you through the pain. God's been with you this whole time and will continue to do that through all of your days, Mr.Moore. Hope that we hear from you soon.
