Day 5 of Recovery

To Ray's students:  I always read your comments to Ray and he loves them!!

Day 5

Day 5 went fairly well.  There were a few things that bothered Ray throughout the day, but there were many positives that show his body is still healing and progressing.  He was awake most of the day, and his pain is still very minimal.  He was put on "soft" food -- having beef stew and rice for lunch, chicken and mashed potatoes for dinner.  It was exciting and seemed to sit well in his belly.  It was also nice to see Ray sitting up and reading the paper; it all felt closer to normal than it has in a while.

The doctors did say that the earliest we could be discharged would be Monday, but the explained that was still a long ways away and we needed to take things one day at a time.

Currently the catheter that goes into his wound has been filling rapidly and often.  This is cause for some concern and needs to be monitored.  He also still has a handful of hurdles that he has to pass before talk of discharge officially occurs.  Hopefully, he'll sleep well, and not be queasy during the night and continue to progress.

His son, Seth, and Seth's wife, Claire are in town.  His daughter, Moriah, arrives tomorrow night.  We're going to have a good weekend being together.
