Among Ray's many side effects from his chemo is that now there is a burning red path down his forearm. Literally, you can see the path of the poisons traveling through the veins in his arm from the injection site. Apparently it's way freakier than really is. Ray ran by to see the nurses at the doctor's office, and they all crowded around to check out his arm (what flirts! *kidding*) and told Ray that it was a simple reaction to the chemo: to take ibuprofen and put on a warm compress. *sigh*
Folks have been concerned and asked about whether or not Ray should have a port for his chemo. Apparently, Ray does not need one as the particular chemicals that he has are different from those of someone who has had breast cancer, for instance. (You wouldn't believe how many crazy poisons and smoking chemicals they can come up with to kill that cancer!) When we asked our nurse why Ray doesn't have a port, she explained that many types of chemo, if leaked out into the body, can cause third-degree burns. Wow, right? Thank goodness for simple blessings!
So when you consider chemo being poison, you don't normally think of the smoking chemical concoctions from old sci-fi movies, but I definitely do now!
