Day 3: Recovery Underway

Today was not as exciting as yesterday.  We did start the day under the excitement of reading comments from his students on the blog, emails from students and faculty, Facebook comments -- they all made Ray smile and laugh.  He was really grateful for everyone's well-wishes and prayers and words of encouragement.  He enjoyed hearing them all, and I would read them aloud to him when he was awake, and stop when he began to need to rest.

Ray
slept almost all day.  He got up this morning and did FOUR steps up and down with the physical therapist!  Everyone was amazed that he was doing steps so early.  I think it might have been that it was so early, though, that he began to feel sick.  He ended up spending the rest of the day sleeping and waking up just to do what nurses and doctors needed or wanted.

They moved him to a new room, which is so much bigger, has two windows that open, and has many, comfy chairs for visitors.  The last room only had one chair, little better than a metal chair, was very dark, and was privy to all the noises, sounds, and conversations of the very-near roommate.  Here is a photo of it before they moved his bed in:

We have been talking about how much darker his hair is getting!!  We don't know if it's just because there's been more time since chemo and his body is recovering, or if it was because of his blood transfusion that he is more rejuvenated, or what the deal is, but it looks good, doesn't it?

Onto tomorrow, recovery, and watching God's hand at work . . .

  2. So sorry that today was not as good as yesterday, but I'm sure that's to be expected as the activity level increases. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I'm so glad you all are enjoying the messages from the students. They were so interested in reading the blogs and seeing the pictures!! Please send more whenever you get a chance. This is a very positive way of engaging the student's with Ray's progress, and it's truly inspirational. It's very good for them.

Looking forward to more messages and pictures!

  6. MR. Moore,
I hope and pray that the sun finds your face today and is humbled by your smile. You were such an inspiration, (dare I say it out loud?), Ten years ago, when I sat in the back row of your class room. You pushed me and encouraged me and helped me learn that school was not just a place I went during the day but a tool I needed to use to better myself. Know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and that I look forward to seeing you at the class of 2000 reunion this fall. We might even play some "BASEBALL".

  7. We are glad to see that Ray is doing well. It will be great one day and then not so much the next, but he will get through it. With all the thoughts and prayers from everyone, he will be back and better than ever. Hope to catch up with you all this weekend when we are in Baltimore and if that's ok. Thinking of you always. Love Susan and Kenny. :):)
